I've only read Wendig's supernatural works before now, so I was surprised when this turned out to be a straight thriller. A new form of super ant is found at the site of a murder, happily munching away on the corpse.
Hannah, our crack investigator, hunts the source of the ants down to a secretive biolab, where a hideous mistake results in the release of colonies of super ants and widescale death and destruction. The action is kept pretty tight throughout, and the horror is nicely done (I'm still itching).
Slightly weak third act in that it wraps up a little too fast, but it certainly doesn't ruin the book.
Highly recommended.
