Kate Fox takes a long, occasionally poetic look at the perfect human body, goes "ooh, tasty", looks at what it takes to achieve and maintain it and ultimately decides it's not worth it. That's the theme of this first episode of a series which considers the things that are supposed to make us happy, and does a little cost benefit analysis on them.
There is a bit of a flaw in that premise for this episode, in that healthy bodies are generally better off in the long term, which is why that general point feels a bit skimmed. Instead, Fox looks more at the surface techniques people use, and once again I am reminded that people spend too much on things in tiny bottles that are supposedly magic.
I'll be honest, my overall thoughts about this is that Fox is a slightly less funny Sarah Millican. She occupies the same half self-help half observational brain space, but doesn't give it that slight twist Millican is good at, that pushes a chuckle to a belly laugh. Fox didn't really get me beyond a chuckle. Probably won't go back for the rest of the series.
Not recommended.
