Unexpectedly good, even with the vaguely romancy tone to it. Quite a common "oh no, I'm a warrior against the supernatural, and I'm secretly a supernatural, so I'm horribly outcast, poor me" main character, but he's actually really fun. The author is pleasantly self-aware and plays around with the form in an entertaining way with some neat asides.
Nice to see vampires as horrible monsters again, and generally some interesting baddies throughout. Supporting cast is also strong.
Don't be put off by the title, it's nothing like a Mills and Boon. (I do rather wonder why they went with it, since I did briefly consider flicking past it on the shelf, but glad I didn't.) Will be watching for the next one.
Highly recommended.
