The highly anticipated follow-up to Marvel's (at the time) first foray into a less traditional superhero film, offers more of the same. Which is good and bad. It's definitely an entertaining romp, and the comic moments come thick and fast, but none of it is surprising.
That's sort of typified by baby Groot, who is funny occasionally, but just a smidge too annoying. The focus on him ruins the first five minutes, which sets up the film really badly.
And all the beats feel fairly familiar. You can fairly well predict where the arcs are going to go from the start. There were a couple unexpected moments, (Hoff reference, death problems, Pacman), that stick in the mind nicely, but the overall film was a little unsatisfying. Watch it for the jokes, don't expect great story. (Though the Yondu arc was actually really nice.)
