Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight

Ah, Metroidvania. You are a lovely genre, but not one I play as often as I should. This is an excellent example. We have an interesting bit of plot, ticking along in the background, and a rather fun combat system to make our mark on it. Nothing particularly innovative, usual running, jumping, stabbing and shooting, but it's all very fluid and enjoyable.

You play as a Priestess, off to save the world from the machinations of an evil witch, who has slowly corrupted everything and everybody. You do this by slowly improving your skill set, amassing dodges and archery skills, while making use of a range of items. The item system is surprisingly deep, with both passive and active items, which you will be often switching out depending on what you're up to.

The evil witch - rather annoying

The enemies come thick and fast, and are pleasantly varied. While a fair few will take a simple "run up to them and stab them in the face" strategy, others require a bit of thought to put down. Or you can just try and push them in their own spiky pits. That's always a laugh.

Don't be fooled, this cute flower is a git

It was an enjoyable fair few hours. Though I'm still missing a couple of the secrets. Oh, by the way, there's secrets. The usual things hidden in walls or in places you can only unlock when you have all of the expanded skill set. Thank god for the map and the friendly people.
