de Blob 2
de Blob 2

I really want to like this game. No, that's not fair. I really like this game. It's got bucketloads of charm, and induces feelings of nostalgia for my youth and games like Banjo Kazooie. It's set up wonderfully, with lovely little cutscenes which are very reminiscent of the ones featured so heavily in the various Lego games.

And the set-dressing is excellent. The different levels are well put together, and the way it responds to the painting is really neat. (I've never played the original, so I might have been a bit more impressed than others.) The colouring effect is fun and the different vehicles and so on that come to life are rather cute. The sound and music are also good, though the constant grumbling of Blob is a bit annoying.

But actually playing the game is a bit boring. There are various tricks to try and vary the gameplay, but the fact that you spend 90% of the time rolling into paint and then into everything book paint does get a bit tedious. Maybe it's something you'd put no more than hour in at a time, spread out over a prolonged period. It's certainly very relaxing. Or maybe give it to a kid so they don't paint the real wall.

Recommended.
