Chuck Wendig - Zer0es

Imagine you're a hacker. You've spent your life helping bring down governments or skimming credit cards. And you're invulnreable. Until you're not. The NSA find you. Drag you off to a compound and tell you you're going to hack for the government. Do you do it? Or do you do what you always do, and try and break the system?

That's the choice facing our half a dozen black and white hats, when they are ordered to investigate project Typhon, under threat of torture by a range of security services.

They're a fun bunch this lot, ranging from trolls to hacktivists, with a quick stop off in crazy preppers. It's an impressive team of characters, and they're written very well. Pleasantly, that extends to the villainous agents, who get a lot more sympathy than you would typically expect from the baddies.

The plot dashes along at a decent pace, with some good hints of horror, that slowly take over from the thriller base. It's a good move, that keeps the interest running nicely. Totally worth adding to the archive, and I suggest any fans of cyberpunk, or the similar "Daemon" by Daniel Saurez, give it a look.

Highly recommended.
