Tony Law: 21st Century Adventurer
Tony Law: 21st Century Adventurer

This was an unexpected treat. A comedy travel show, positioned as a sillier form of Brian Gulliver's Travels, this follows the exploits of Tony Law, a not-so-gentlemanly adventurer and his team of misfits. Said misfits include an overzealous survivalist, a navigator with nine points on his license, and a botanist who has recently got divorced and is doing just fine, thank you for asking.

They're out to locate (and probably nick, you know adventurers) the girdle of the Queen of the Amazons, a tribe populated entirely by warrior women. With a team of two men and two women, a plan immediately suggests itself. Transvestitism. (Yes, this might be a bit of a farce.)

Follows a traditional form of the lead being an idiot, with a sensible teammate in the background, but all of the crew are flawed in entertaining ways, giving a decent range of humour, helped along by the fact that the amazon tribe learnt English from stand-up comedy DVDs. (It was an incorrectly delivered return to that other tribe of Amazons.)

That stupidity can lead to an element of repetition, with some jokes a little run into the ground, but there's enough variety in here that I'll happily listen to more of it, especially given how long it's been since the last bit of adventure comedy.

Highly recommended.
