Jeremy Hardy Feels...

This is very similar to Andy Hamilton's show from a few weeks back, being an excuse for Jeremy Hardy to talk for about thirty minutes with a reasonable consistency on a given topic. This week it's happiness.

As anybody who's ever listened to Jeremy will attest, he doesn't sound very happy, even when discussing things that give him great joy. Like the Virgin train service. Other important topics are the little pleasures in life, such as nice sandwiches or monster munch.

He is also weirdly superior, in that people are apparently only allowed to be healthy if they keep very quiet about it. The happiness people get from achieving something that is lauded is some sort of presenteeism that doesn't count as real happiness. Which doesn't necessarily agree with the fact that we're a social species, and communicating with others about what makes us happy is part of the system that holds us together.

Still, he's funny enough to keep me listening for the half hour, even if there's not really any great structure to the piece. He has his usual political rants, which admittedly I've more or less heard before on The News Quiz. I'll give the rest a listen, but consider this more of a semi-TED talk than a stand-up set. If you like Jeremy in general, you'll probably like this.

Recommended.
