Magical Girl Apocalypse

Since we're getting to a new season of anime, I thought I'd look at a manga one of them is based on. So I read the first volume of Magical Girl Apocalypse.

Which is a shame because apparently the anime I'm thinking of is based on Magical Girl Site, a different thing (though by the same person). Never mind, bought it now, so best read it.

Kii is a student sitting an exam, when a glance out of the window happens to show him a magical girl, in the middle of an altercation with one of the teachers.

There's no way this can end badly.

And so begins the apocalypse of the title. Magical Girls, (who can all only say "Magical" ala Pokemon,) fall from the sky and start murdering everyone who happens to wander past. And then raise them in order to help with the murdering.

The necessary cute sidekick is included. It's zombies.

It's a very quick read, with a savage art style that wanders between nicely detailed static scenes, especially on the Girls to a very crude and sketchy approach for the more horrific parts. Zombies are drawn in harsh lines, which does occasionally make them run into each other a bit.

It does seem very keen to kill off the characters, and if it's going to just keep rotating more in to kill them again, that could get tedious quick. The plot feels a bit limited currently, as I can see it turning into The Walking Dead, simply with a magical girl coating, but I'll probably grab the next volume.
