A present from the Girl, this one, which is a bit of a surprise, given she hates spiders. Looks like I've got a bit of a trend for giant spider mangas. Might make for an interesting collection. Feel free to suggest others.
Our unnamed protagonist is sitting quietly at school one day, when she suddenly dies. And is reborn in another world. Yes, she's aware of the cliche, and tends to go a bit meta about it fairly frequently.
However, it's a little different this time, in that she is reborn as a tiny giant spider. Giant tiny spider? One or the other.
So she has to survive as a monster in a world where our protagonist would usually be a hero, fighting against monsters, humans and a few natural disasters. It seems the world she has reincarnated into is a LitRPG one, so we've got stats once again. Thankfully, the stats aren't overwhelming, like some of the LitRPG I've read recently.
It is also more than a bit hilarious. She's very self-aware, and gives the game interface its usual sarcastic running commentary, as well as attempting to apply normal human values to the ethical decisions she has to make. Like whether or not to eat her siblings. And she likes to build impressively voluminous houses out of her webs.
It's very much a comedy, so don't expect much high drama, but she's a cheery protagonist, and her can-do attitude makes it an entertaining book, with no shortage of jokes. It also has a fair few decent fight scenes, and a nice range of horrible things to be eaten. (I'm still waiting for the food porn: "ooh, this wyvern liver tastes so delightful with the frog venom sorbet".)
Will absolutely be making the Girl buy me the next one.
