One of my acquisitions from London Comic Con, Necropolis is a short form print comic by Patrick Warren, about the voyage of Elliot Finch into the London Underworld. (It's like the Underground, but spookier.)
Elliot is on his way to work, when he accidentally cycles through a very liquidy ghost, and discovers his ticket has been smudged to illegibility. Sneaking onto the underground, he finds himself surrounded by inky black monstrostities, bird-masked judges and Zia, a blue-skinned glowy eyed stalkery dead girl.
The obvious parallel is with Neverwhere, but it sits a little more noir-ish, with monsters made of impressively horrible oil slicks and a cruel council driving the menace. The three volumes are relatively slim, so the plot is only really just getting going, but it's certainly grabbed my attention. It's also unexpectedly funny, with a decent sense of timing and some clever moments.
The art has a nice variety in it, ranging from the simple lines of Elliot in introspective moments, to the grungy mess that makes up the main threat so far and the faded hues of the various ghosts that wander around being mysterious.
Will definitely need to find some way of tracking when the next one is out.
