My Girlfriend is a T-Rex

I'm discovering that I'm a bit of a fan of the sillier side of manga/light novels currently, with the ludicrous horror of giant fish and the even more daft Reborn as a vending machine, so when I spotted this while out buying the next two Spider mangas it was an easy pick. Monster girls can be fun, and this one seemed daft enough to spend my time on.

Yuuma is a young man living in a world in which dinosaurs never went extinct, but instead evolved human-like features in order to blend in to human society and stop themselves from being wiped out. This apparently means that humans and dinosaurs have absolutely no problems breeding. (Although actually, that's a guess. While we've seen lots of inter-species dating, it's not clear whether or not they're biologically compatible.)

That doesn't matter though, because evidently they're hot. Yuuma is particularly taken by dino-phwoar (I'm not sorry for that), Churio, a T-rex he finds effectively living in the street, and so he begins a relationship with her. I say half naked, I actually mean fully naked. But like a lot of monster girls, they obey the Donald Duck rule of not needing trousers. The societal norm is to cover up their breasts, which as lizards, they definitely have.

I'm pretty sure this is how convergent evolution works right?

You might think Yuuma would be concerned about his safety, getting intimate with a mass of muscle and claws designed for ripping apart meat and tearing victims to pieces, but luckily he had a mis-spent youth. This translates into him being a world-class fighter and horribly scary person in his own right, able to fight off dinosaurs and other romantic rivals, as well as win every argument with a bit of force.

(Spoiler - He doesn't cry like a baby.)

But what's more troubling about him is why he likes having Churio as a girlfriend. She's the dinosaur equivalent of a bimbo, with the inability to perform basic tasks, while still having assets worth lusting after. (Assets here may well mean powerful tail and shiny claws. We're honestly not sure what the appeal is.) The fact he can distract her with a bit of food or trick her into performing annoying jobs for him due to her simple nature is a bit questionable.

This worrying feeling of sexism stretches to Torika, Churio's best friend, who has the knack of twisting humans around her little claw to get all she wants from them. A powerful woman, you might think, able to get men to do her bidding. Perhaps she will run a company, slowly take over the world and begin her invasion of space?

Oh, no, she just wants shiny things. Never mind then.

It wouldn't be so bad if Yuuma was our standard everyman protagonist, trying to make his way through a difficult world. The fact that he is intended to be a badass who is taking advantage of her stupidity to improve his lot leaves something of a bad taste in the mouth. The comedy otherwise is your standard "oh no, how do dinosaurs ever cope in a world built for people", discounting the whole central idea of the premise that they've evolved with us for hundreds of years.

I'd say skip it.
